First week back!

This week room nine has been working hard on their informational and descriptive writing strategies. They have been using the new writing task website, which has made accessing their work much easier. We have also been learning about Algebra and it's applications in the real world.

This week along with practicing the standard curriculum subjects, Room 9 has been celebrating the birth of Hip hop by having a go on the Google Doodle 44th anniversary of hip hop. This fun activity allows you to try out a set of turn tables, mixing the samples that started the genre of Hip hop. They cover everything from the original sample Kool Herc used, all the way through to the Armen break, the most sampled piece of music in the history of music. This was great chance for my students to explore one of their favourite types of music. See if your kids have what it takes to become a scratch master like Kool Herc or Grand Master Flash.

Cybersmart Week 7

This week we have looked at our digital footprint and how available our images and information is online. Below is an image showing all our students who we could find on the day. Those that have nothing linked to their names or have any photos had a minimal online presence.

Many of the students in room 9 had a small digital footprint which required really specific words in order to find. The learning is focused around how we show ourselves online and what we share. We then talked about what were some of the ways we could keep ourselves safe online.

This week in room 9 we have been looking at how to teach different reading strategies. Room 9 students learn new strategies each week and we wanted to talk about how you can learn these simple strategies in an easy way. The students have created step by step tutorials either with video tools or on a drawing and have broken down the steps needed to achieve these strategies. These will eventually be shared on a class site, so the students have a learning site that they have created themselves

It is Samoan national language week and we thought we would finish the week by having a sing along to the National anthem.

We have been looking at new ways to bring a positive PB4L culture into our classes. One way of doing this was to create a class slogan along with a class PB4L picture. This is room 9's first attempt. Let us know what you think. They are also looking for some ideas for a great class message.

Great work from this group of girls. Would love to see if they can get this plan into action, and help clean up the local rivers.

Please comment if you have any constructive ideas about what they could do!
