This week along with practicing the standard curriculum subjects, Room 9 has been celebrating the birth of Hip hop by having a go on the Google Doodle 44th anniversary of hip hop. This fun activity allows you to try out a set of turn tables, mixing the samples that started the genre of Hip hop. They cover everything from the original sample Kool Herc used, all the way through to the Armen break, the most sampled piece of music in the history of music. This was great chance for my students to explore one of their favourite types of music. See if your kids have what it takes to become a scratch master like Kool Herc or Grand Master Flash.

  1. Hi we are Room 6 at Wesley Primary.
We think that this is such a cool tool! We are going to try using it too.
Thank you for sharing it. Is there a way to download what you mix and share it on your blog?

    Blog you later,

    1. Hey Room 6, at the moment you cannot download the mix, but I do think you could screencastify your DJ set and this would give you a copy to share. :) hope that helps.

  2. Kia Ora Room 9. I think what Google has done is a terrific way to teach students about music, which is very important in the school curriculum and some careers students might choose. I gave the game a go and it was lots of fun and really intuitive.
